Local high-end hotel, Hemingways Nairobi has received Mystery Inspectors Award in the Small Luxury Hotels Awards 2020, topping 550 properties globally. The award is determined by a team of anonymous inspectors who travel to all member hotels globally and go through an extensive check-list and report back on the quality of each hotel. “We see the award as an incredible boost for the luxury hospitality sector in Kenya, as it shows that a homegrown luxury Kenyan brand, staffed by dedicated Kenyan hospitality professionals, can compete with the best of the best internationally,” said Ross Evans, Hemingways Collection Group Operations Director. The award comes as Kenya’s hospitality sector is in the early stages of recovery following the slump after a ban on international travel as well as restricted local movement was effected across the country. This has seen the sector lose over Sh80 billion as hotels were forced to shut down and send staff home. “Considering the mystery inspectors give their rating based on their personal experience at each and every member hotel, this award further recognizes Hemingways Collection’s efforts in providing a unique luxury Kenyan experience to our guests,” said Mr Ross. The award was one among 17 categories featured with others including Hotel of the Year won by Hotel Relais Christine of France), Most ‘Liked’ Hotel (Halcyon House of Australia), Digital Excellence Award (Triumph Hotels of USA), and Best Gourmet Experience (the Seminyak Resort & Spa in Bali, Indonesia. Small Luxury Hotels of the World comprises 550 hotels in more than 90 countries.
